I dont think so, you can do both at the same time! The calories you need for the muscle come from your fat! you dont need a surplus! Mr John Benson knows exactly how that works

I understand his reasoning but what this guy is saying is just not plausible. Our body has only one guideline for losing weight, this guideline is : burn more calories than you eat and you will lose weight. So no matter how much a person eats, if they burn more than thier caloric intake , they will lose weight. It is very foolish to say that one cannot lose fat while gaining muscle. Muscle burns fat, so the more muscle you gain, depending on your diet, the more fat you will lose.

its true! Dieting is hard for me :S i am 5,6ft tall and weighed 240 pounds, i lost 60 pounds just by building more muscle.

Its possible. You wont see fast gains like you would doing them separately, focusing on one goal at a time. But it is possible. Simply by building muscle you are conditioning your body to be a calorie burner. So the more muscle you build the more calories your body will burn throughout the day. like I said, slow, but very possible. So you should never say “you cant”
