You Stay Fat - They Stay Rich: What To Do

You are fat. Your neighbor is probably fat. Most adult Americans are fat. Let’s face, we are a fat nation filled with fat people that can’t get enough to eat. Even if you don’t consider yourself fat, you probably wouldn’t object to being able to easily lose a few pounds, right?

One of the strangest things in modern history is that the more developed and well off a country gets, the fatter it’s people become. Most people in most of the developed nations today have a few extra pounds on them, to say the least.

Is there a reason behind all this blubber? Is there a secret cause behind this rotund effect? Why did people get so fat?

For one thing, we don’t work as hard as we used to. Most people nowadays can work a pretty easy job, sitting at a desk, taking the elevator up and down, and not even getting up off the couch to change the channel on the TV. So that’s one reason we’re so fat. We don’t get enough exercise.

And another clear reason that so many of us need to put in a heroic effort to button our pants every morning is the stuff we eat day in an day out. Filled with chemicals, preservatives, and other stuff that belongs in laboratory, the food we eat today can’t really be all that healthy.

And supposing you head outside for a bite to eat, which is more common, fresh fruit and vegetable stands everywhere, or the golden arches? Yep. And these places are filled with the least nutritious, most fatty foods you can imagine.

What makes it worse, is that when we become hungry, it becomes next to impossible to resist this food. This has nothing to do with willpower. Because our ancestors had to struggle to find food everyday, we humans developed a strong urge to eat everything in sight whenever we get an opportunity. Great strategy if you are a caveman, but no if you pass by a donut shop every morning.

Another reason, one that isn’t talked about too much is that all those big companies that make all this processed food may actually want you to stay fat. The more we eat that junk, the harder it is to resist. And the more money they make.

There is a growing suspicion that this whole mess we live in was carefully designed by those that want to take advantage of our natural tendency to eat delicious food, just so they could make a profit. I don’t know if that’s true, but they sure are making a profit.

So what do we do? Try and exercise. Try and stay away from fast and processed food. Turn off your TV. Go for a walk. It might be difficult at first, but when you realize your life depends on it, it gets easier.
